Abstract

Objectives: To estimate some risk factors and the outcomes of term pregnancies with meconium stained amniotic fluid (MSAF).

Method: Cross-sectional descriptive.

Results: There were 368 term pregnant women with MSAF were included, and 373 pregnant women with clear amniotic fluid as the controlled group. There were 35.9% of them had thick meconium in amniotic fluid. The mean age of the study group was 30.5±6.7 years old, higher than the controls. The mean gestational age was 40.0±1.5 weeks, higher than the controls, too. The rate of postdate, C-section and SGA are higher in MSAF group compared with controlled when pH level of cord blood is lower in MSAF group.

Conclusions: The higher age of the mother and the gestation age, the higher risk of MSAF. And this condition makes it increase of C-section rate, decrease of birth weight and pH value.
