The effectiveness of single step culture media and sequential culture media on the blastulation rate

Abstract

Objective: To compare the effectiveness of the blastulation rate between the two types of culture media: the single-step media and the sequential media.

Patients and Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study. The data was collected from July-2015 to April-2016 in IVFMD. There were 92 patients with embryos were cultured in the single step media and 108 patients with embryos were cultured in the sequential media. The primary outcome was the blastulation rate and the secondary outcomes were the utilization rate, the on-going pregnancy rate and the implantation rate.

Results: There were no differences in patient characteristics between two groups (age, BMI, number of treatment cycles, infertility duration, type of infertility). There was no difference in the blastulation rate between the sequential media and the single-step media (57% vs 60%, P>0.05). There were no differences in the utilization rate, the pregnancy rate, and the implantation rate between two groups respectively (49% vs 50%; 57% vs 62%; 45,8% vs 50,7%; P>0.05).

Conclusion: The two media were equivalent in relation to the blastocyst rate
