Abstract

Background: In 2010, embryo reduction procedure was first performed in National Center for Assisted Reproduction (NCAR) in order to reduce the number of embryos in the uterine, decrease the risk of pregnancy lost and premature birth.

Objectives: to comment on gestational outcomes after embryo reduction in NCAR.

Subjects: multiple-pregnancy women who were performed transvaginal embryo aspiration before 57 days of gestation. Methods: prospective study.

Results: 121 women with multiple pregnancy aged from 20 to 45 years old. 64.1% after IVF. The mean gestational age was 49.6 ± 2.9 days. Before embryo reduction, there were 2 to 6 embryos in the uterine. After the reduction, 91.8% had 2 embryos in the uterine. Gestational outcomes: the rate of pregnancy failure before 24 weeks of gestations was 9.9%. The success rate was 86%. The mean gestational age at delivery was 33.2 ± 6.5 weeks. The mean birth weight of 191 living infants was 2098.4 ± 575.4 gram. Women had chose to reduce to 1 embryo had a higher rate of delivering in-term babies and heavier babies than those who chose to reduce to 2 embryos.

Conclusions: Transvaginal embryo aspiration is a safe, effective method, has given successful outcomes gestation.
