Abstract
Introduction: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine and metabolic disorder that affects significantly the general health of 5-10% of reproductive-age women. Data on body mass index (BMI) and dyslipidemia in women with PCOS is so far still limited and lack of uniformity.
Methodology: A cross-sectional description of 172 cases of reproductive-age women who were diagnosed with PCOS by Rotterdam criteria (2003) visited Center for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University, Hue, Vietnam, from May 2017 to May 2019. Each woman underwent an anthropometric measurement as well as examination of Clinical characteristics and basic hormonal profile, AMH, lipidemia variables. Input and process data using SPSS 23 software.
Results: The prevalence of overweight and obese is 11,0% and 8,1%. Rate of blood lipid disorders was 54,7%, of which total cholesterol abnormalites accounted for 23,3%, triglycerides 27,3%, LDL-C 34,9% and decreased HDL in 14,5%. The commonest type was combined disorder with increased TC and LDL-C (12,2%). There is a correlation between dyslipidemia and clinical and endocrine factors: BMI with age, duration of infertility, waist circumference, WHR and AMH; Total cholesterol associated with AMH; Triglycerides related to age, duration of infertility, DBP, waist circumference, FSH; HDL-C decrease is associated with age, waist circumference, WHR, LH, FSH, LH/FSH; LDL-C associated with WC, AMH.
Conclusions: Dyslipidemia are common in the infertile patents with PCOS. Appropriate screening strategy, early detection and timely intervention are needed to prevent systemic complications related to dyslipidemia.
