Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to describe and evaluate the correlation between Prenatal Diagnostic Ultrasound Images of meconium peritonitis and Infants’ postnatal outcomes.

Materials and methods: We conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study to follow 65 pregnant women diagnosed with fetal meconium peritonitis by Inter-hospital consultation council, compare and evaluate postnatal outcomes of these cases.

Results: In all 65 fetuses diagnosed with meconium peritonitis, images of calcification and fluid in the abdominal cavity are typically observed with sensitivities of 72.9% and 83.7%. Image of Meconium Pseudocyst has the selectivity (81.8%) and highest positive predictive value (88.8%). The rates of postnatal surgery for grade 0, 1, 2 and 3 severity patients are 42.9%, 33.3%, 71.4% and 100%, respectively.

Conclusion: Prenatal diagnostic sonographic findings are highly valuable when prognosticating pregnancy outcomes for fetuses diagnosed with meconium peritonitis.
