Abstract

Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess the correlation between oocyte morphology and fertilization rate after intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).

Method: this descriptive study carried out in 414 oocytes from women at the age under 35 who undergoing ovarian stimulation by antagonist protocol in Assissted Reproductive Department of Hà Nội Obstetric and Gynecology Hospital.

Results: the factors affecting the success rate of ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) included PB (polar body) morphology (p=0.031), coarse granulation in PVS (perivitelline space) (p<0.01), ooplasm morphology (p=0.034), the plasticity of oocyte membrane (p<0.01). The oocyte degeneration rate after ICSI was affected by colour of ZP (zona pellucida) (p=0.007), coarse granulation in PVS (p<0.01), PB morphology (p=0.028), ooplasm morphology (p=0.001), the plasticity of oocyte membrane (p<0.01).

Conclusion: the morphological features of oocyte that affects the success rate of ICSI are: 1st Polar body, zona pelucida, ooplasm, plasticity of oocyte membrane.
