Abstract

Objectives: To compare the outcome of blastocyst development of sibling oocytes randomly inseminated by conventional  in vitro fertilization (IVF) vs. Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) in patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)  and normozoospermic semen.

Materials and Methods: A distinctive IVF/ICSI sibling oocyte split design study included 50 couples with Polycystic ovary  syndrome and normozoospermia undergoing their IVF/ICSI cycle were conducted. Sibling oocytes were randomized to  be inseminated either by conventional IVF or ICSI. Fertilization rate, cleavage rate, and embryo quality were examined. Results: In IVF group, blastocyst rate and good quality blastocyst rate were significantly higher than ICSI group (p  = 0.018 and p = 0.028). There was no significant difference between the IVF group and the ICSI group in the mature  oocyte rate, number of zygote, day 2 embryos, high-quality day 2 embryos, day 5 embryos, high-quality day 5 embryos,  fertilization rate, cleavage rate and good cleavage rate.

Conclusions: Higher-quality blastulation rate was observed in the IVF group compared to the ICSI group. ICSI did not  improve embryo outcomes more than IVF in patients with Polycystic ovary syndrome and non-male factors.
