Abstract
Background: Menorrhagia-heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) is relatively common in reproductive aged women. Dysmenorrhoea is familiar with women undergoing endometriosis. Levonorgestrel releasing intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) is a new alternative treatment of menorrhagia-HMB and painful menstruation. Objectives: To estimate the efficacy of LNG-IUS in treatment of menorrhagia-HMB and dysmenorrhoea associated with endometriosis. Materials and Methods: Case series reports of LNG-IUS indications for menorrhagia-HMB and Dysmenorrhoea associated with endometriosis at Family Planning department, Tu Du hospital from March, 2011 till February, 2013. Results: After 12 months of LNG-IUS, duration of menstruation reduced average 8.3 days (p<0,05); menstrual blood loss decreased 92.6% compared previous periods; pain reduced as much as 89.4% (p<0,05). There are 84.1% subjects showed satisfied and very satisfied at the 3rd month after LNG-IUS insertion and at 12th month, 100% subjects were satisfied with LNG-IUS treatment. Conclusions: LNG-IUS showed the efficacy in treatment of menorrhagia- HMB and painful menstruation associated with endometriosis.
